Hours increase

Just Eat, a leading food delivery company in Italy, has chosen to place couriers at the centre of the sustainability of its business. The company’s goal is to increase the number of customers, orders and deliveries by optimising its fleet of couriers based on the volume of orders, the number of deliveries per hour and the increase in the contracted hours of the couriers.

The hours increase procedure is intended to offer a clear structure for the business growth of riders and to have a unique approach from managers in all Italian cities. In this way, Just Eat intends to guarantee sustainable growth of its business, guaranteeing an efficient service to customers and a fair working environment for its couriers.

The central analyst team provides guidance on the actual need for any additional hours and the optimal distribution of the contractual hours across the fleet. Therefore, on the basis of these indications, an increase in contractual hours can concern both existing 10 hour contracts and higher hours contracts, depending on the operational needs of the city.

Once the need to increase hours in each city has been defined, the candidates are evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

Seniority: have been with the company for at least 3 months*
Productivity: deliver at least 1.5 orders per hour over the past 3 months
Presence: be present for at least 95% of scheduled shifts in the last 3 months
Punctuality: meet shift start and end times as scheduled for the last 3 months
Correctness: not having pending disciplinary proceedings and/or having collected serious disciplinary notes

Once the names of the riders eligible for the hours increase have been identified, the manager makes a proactive offer to the selected riders based on the availability of hours in the city and the following criteria in order:

  • Productivity
  • Seniority
  • Punctuality
  • Availability

The policy for contract hours increase has been in force since 1/4/2023 in all Italian cities.

*3 months evaluation starts from the 1st day of the month of analysis (i.e., March evaluation takes into account data from 1/12 to 28/2. Excluding vacation slots requested by the Company.
